Well, it's the day after Xmas and looking kinda bleary outside. I thought about going for a ride today, but it just doesn't look that appealing. Guess I will just stay inside and work on my computer and on straightening up my office. Santa didn't bring any goodies for my bike, but with as much money as I have dumped into my bike this year, my checkbook and credit card needed a break. This year I put on new tires, a oil filter relocation kit, new saddlebags, flasher for my brakelight, CB, and set up to listen to my XM radio, not to mention I had to get a new helmet with speakers to use with the CB & stereo. Also put fender tips on both the front and back fenders. Then, so I would have security on my rides, I got a SPOT messenger unit, in case I break down or have an accident. All this, between January & June of 2009. My credit card was screaming by that point. Next year I want to put on highway pegs and new handlebars and get an IPOD for when I don't get satellite signal.
I had a wonderful riding season this year. I belong to Chapter #186 (Contra Costa, CA) of Star Touring and riding. This year I was the LOS (Ladies of the Star) representative. We did some great rides this year. Nice part of living in the San Francisco Bay Area of CA is that you can ride most of the year. The highlight of the year was the road trip my bestfriend and I took in July. We went on a 10 day, 2500 mile trip thru Northern CA, OR, and WA. Took 2 days to get from Antioch, CA to Leavenworth, WA. We spent 4 days at my family reunion in Leavenworth, and took a side trip up to the Grand Coulee Dam. Then it was westward to Seattle to spend a day with my friend's sister. Next day we went south into OR, and west of Portland to visit another sister of my friend for a day. Headed south on I-5, thru Medford, where my friend's bike broke down. We rented a UHaul, and loaded her bike in to bring it home. Another night on the road and the final haul to home. Left on July 3rd and was home again on July 12th. Saw some great scenery and had a fabulous time. Lots of people got a kick out of two 51 year old women on a road trip together. I would love to do it again. My friend wound up buying a new Yamaha 950, so the breakdown had a happy ending.
Hi Jenn, Very cool. This is a great post! and a great example of what this blog is intended to be used for. I hope that we can have a lot more posts like this and more people to post. Please invite your friends and club-member to follow and contribute if they wish.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet the trip up through CA into Oregon and Washington was beautiful. YOu have an 1100, right? And your friend got the new 950, that is awesome. I would like to hear more about both bikes.
I also wish I could ride more than 7 or 8 months out of the year, but the conditions are not too great right now in MN! So My 650 is sitting in the garage on a battery tender that I installed today and I go out and look at it and wish..... Santa did bring me a sissy bar pack, so I will be set for some overnighters now, or longer.
PS, very nice looking bike!
